Representative cases

Casey Gerry dog attack attorneys recently settled a case in Riverside in which two children, 2 and 5, were being cared for at the home of a sitter who owned a pit bull terrier. The sitter drove another child to school, leaving the children in the care of a 12-year-old boy. The boy was in the house, and the children in the yard. When he looked out he saw the pit bull tossing the two-year old in the air like a rag doll. The dog bit and mauled the little girl, and she ultimately died from her wounds.

The sitter rented the house, and the neighboring owners of the property were well aware of the dog’s dangerous propensities; less than a month earlier the same dog had bitten a guest at their home, which was down the block. Casey Gerry dog attack attorneys investigated the earlier incident, and determined that the property owners had taken no action to restrain or remove the dog after the earlier attack. The property owners were held financially responsible for the dog’s attack on the child. Nothing could restore the child’s life, but Casey Gerry’s dog attack attorneys were able to secure a settlement that provided the bereaved parents financial compensation for their loss.

Choosing an attorney

An important consideration in choosing your counsel in a dog attack case is to find a dog attack attorney with whom you feel comfortable and in whom you have confidence, and who is someone you can trust. In every case there will likely come a time when you must decide whether to resolve your case through settlement or take it to trial. At that point, your confidence and trust in your attorney will be vitally important. We strongly recommend you interview at least two or three highly competent plaintiff’s lawyers and law firms before making your final decision. Casey Gerry would be pleased to be among those that you interview and would be honored to be the firm you select.

Financial arrangements

Casey Gerry’s usual arrangement for a dog attack case is a contingent fee agreement. Casey Gerry agrees to be paid only if the client's case is ultimately successful, either by settlement or by a judgment following a court proceeding. Casey Gerry then receives a percentage of the final amount recovered. If there is no recovery there is no fee. This fee arrangement is helpful for most people with a dog attack or wrongful death case because it does not require the person bringing the case to pay any money up front.
