Representative cases

Casey Gerry dog attack attorneys represented couple in Riverside who lost their two year old daughter in a pit bull attack. The little girl and her five year old brother were at the home of a sitter. The sitter owned a pit bull terrier, which was out in the yard. The sitter drove another child to school, leaving a 12-year-old boy to watch the two young children. The boy allowed them to go out into the yard. He looked out a window to see the pit bull biting and mauling the little girl, then tossing her in the air like a toy. The child died from the bite wounds.

The sitter rented the house, and the owners of the property, who lived nearby, had full knowledge of the serious risks their tenant’s dog presented. A few weeks earlier, when this pit bull had been at the landlord’s house it had bitten a guest. In their investigation of the earlier incident, Casey Gerry dog attack attorneys learned that after that attack, the landlord had taken no action to restrain the dog or have it removed from their rental property. In mediation the owners were held responsible for their failure to take action about this dangerous dog, and its subsequent attack on the little girl. No action could restore her life, but Casey Gerry dog attack attorneys were able to secure the bereaved parents a settlement that provided financial compensation for their painful and needless loss.

Choosing an attorney

An important consideration in choosing your counsel in a dog attack case is to find a dog attack attorney with whom you feel comfortable and in whom you have confidence, and who is someone you can trust. In every case there will likely come a time when you must decide whether to resolve your case through settlement or take it to trial. At that point, your confidence and trust in your attorney will be vitally important. We strongly recommend you interview at least two or three highly competent plaintiff’s lawyers and law firms before making your final decision. Casey Gerry would be pleased to be among those that you interview and would be honored to be the firm you select.

Financial arrangements

Casey Gerry’s usual arrangement for a dog attack case is a contingent fee agreement. Casey Gerry agrees to be paid only if the client's case is ultimately successful, either by settlement or by a judgment following a court proceeding. Casey Gerry then receives a percentage of the final amount recovered. If there is no recovery there is no fee. This fee arrangement is helpful for most people with a dog attack or wrongful death case because it does not require the person bringing the case to pay any money up front.
